All the necessary precautions were taken as guided by the Western Cape Government and National Authorities. The opening of additional Motor Vehicle Registration and Licencing offices, aside from those listed below, will be communicated to members of the public soon.

Motorists are reminded that a 90-day grace period applies for expired driving licence cards, temporary driving licences, learner’s licences, PrDPs and vehicle registration and licence renewal discs from 1 June 2020.

Grace periods from 1 June for:

  • driving licence card renewals
  • learner’s licences
  • temporary permits
  • professional driving permits (PrDPs)
  • roadworthy certificates
  • the registering and licensing of a motor vehicle, as well as annual licence renewals

In addition, the validity period for the renewal of a motor trade number licence is extended for a further six months from 1 June 2020.

The City continues to encourage the use of online services and e-Services where possible.

All vehicle owners who have applied online for the renewal of vehicle licences from  26 March 2020 need to re-apply online as all of those applications have either expired or could not be processed.
